Bülent Alpkaya

H. Bülent Alpkaya (* 1940 in Trabzon ) is a former Turkish admiral , who was last in command of the navy from 2001 to 2003 ( Türk Deniz Kuvetleri ) .

Life

After attending school, Alpkaya entered the sea cadet institute ( Deniz Lisesi ) in 1955 and then attended the naval school ( Deniz Harp Okulu ), which he graduated from in 1962 as a sub-lieutenant at sea. He then found employment as an officer in various naval units and on warships of the Turkish Navy, such as from 1969 to 1970 as the commander of the assault boat TCG AB-27 (P-127).

After graduating from the Naval Academy ( Deniz Harp Akademisi ) from 1970 to 1972 , he was an operations officer and first officer of the frigate TCG Gemlik (F-492) until 1974 and then attended the Royal Naval Staff College in 1975 . After his return he was himself a brief lecturer at the Naval Academy and then between 1975 and 1976 commander of the assault boat TCG Akhisar (P-114) before he returned to Great Britain , where he was a naval attaché at the embassy until 1978 .

After that, Alpkaya acted as commander of the warship TCG Istanbul from 1978 to 1979 and until 1980 as chief of the staff of the warship associations. After his promotion to sea captain on August 30, 1980, he became head of the operations department in the naval command and then training director of the naval school in 1981, before he was head of the operations department of the naval command south from 1982 to 1983. Afterwards he was head of training at the naval academy and then from 1984 to 1986 commodore of the 2nd destroyer flotilla ( Muhrip Filotilla ).

On August 30, 1986, he was promoted to Flotilla Admiral . As such, he became deputy head of the planning department in the command of the Allied Naval Forces Southern Europe (NAVSOUTH) of NATO in Nisida and was then head of the planning and policy department in the high command of the Navy between 1988 and 1989, before he was commander of the regional command between August 1989 and August 1990 Mediterranean ( Akdeniz Bölge Komutanlığı ) was in Mersin .

After he was promoted to Rear Admiral in August 1990 , he became commander of the Bosphorus Regional Command ( İstanbul Boğaz Komutanlığı ) in Istanbul and was then from 1992 to 1993 commander of the miners' associations ( Mayın Filosu Komutanlığı ). He then acted between 1993 and 1994 as the commander of the Warships Association ( Harp Filosu Komutanlığı ).

After his promotion to Vice Admiral on August 30, 1994, Alpkaya became Commander of the Naval Training Command ( Deniz Eğitim Komutanlığı ) and was then Head of the Department of Communications, Electronics and Information Systems in the General Staff of Turkey from 1995 to 1997 , before becoming Commander-in-Chief between August 1997 and August 1999 of the Naval Command South ( Güney Deniz Saha Komutanlığı ) was in Izmir , to which the amphibious vehicle associations in Foça , the maintenance and engineering command Izmir, the regional command Mediterranean and the naval bases İskenderun and Aksaz belong.

On August 30, 1999, Alpkaya was promoted to admiral and appointed commander in chief of the naval command ( Donanma Komutanlığı ) at the Gölcük naval base , which includes the mine-laying, submarine , assault craft, anti-mine vehicles , logistics support and naval aviation associations .

Subsequently, on August 24, 2001, he succeeded Admiral İlhami Erdil as Commander in Chief of the Navy. He held this position until he retired on August 30, 2003. He was then succeeded by Admiral Özden Örnek , who had already been his successor in August 2001 as Commander in Chief of the Fleet Command.
