Kemal Kayacan

Kemal Kayacan (* 1915 in Sinop ; † July 29, 1992 in Kadıköy , Istanbul ) was a Turkish admiral who was last from 1972 to 1974 Commander in Chief of the Navy ( Türk Deniz Kuvvetleri ) .

Life

After attending school, he graduated from the Naval School ( Deniz Harp Okulu ), which he left in 1935 as a sub-lieutenant at sea. He then served as an officer on various ships and in various naval units before he entered the Naval Academy ( Deniz Harp Akademisi ) in 1941 and graduated in 1944. He was then an officer on the warships TCG Ayvalik , TCG Çeşme and the frigate TCG Gemlik (F-492) and was then commander of the TCG Savarona . After serving as a military attaché at the embassy in the USA between 1955 and 1957 , he was then Chief of Staff of the Fleet Command until 1960.

After being promoted to flotilla admiral in 1960, Kayacan became commander of the miners' associations ( Mayın Filosu Komutanlığı ) and was then chief of the naval training command ( Deniz Eğitim Komutanlığı ). He retained this post after his promotion to Rear Admiral in 1963 and was then appointed Commander-in-Chief of the Naval Command South ( Güney Deniz Saha Komutanlığı ) in Izmir , which included the amphibious vehicle associations in Foça , the Izmir Maintenance and Engineering Command, the Mediterranean Regional Command and the İskenderun naval bases and Aksaz belong. After becoming Vice Admiral in 1967 , he became Chief of Staff of the High Command of the Navy.

After being promoted to admiral, on August 29, 1970, he became Commander-in-Chief of the Fleet Command ( Donanma Komutanlığı ) at the Gölcük naval base , which includes the mine-laying, submarine , assault craft , anti-mine vehicle , logistics support and naval aviation associations . In this capacity he was also a member of the Supreme Military Council.

On August 30, 1972, he succeeded Admiral Celal Eyiceoğlu as Supreme Commander of the Navy and held this post until his replacement by Admiral Hilmi Fırat on August 23, 1974.

In the elections on June 5, 1977 Kayacan was elected a member of the Grand National Assembly and represented an constituency of Istanbul until 1980 . He died on July 29, 1992 as a result of an attack.
