İlhami Erdil

İlhami Erdil (* 1938 in Ankara ) is a former Turkish admiral , who was last commander-in-chief of the navy from 1999 to 2001 (Türk Deniz Kuvetleri) .

Life

Naval officer and staff officer

After attending primary and secondary school in Heybeliada in 1953, Erdil entered the sea cadet institute (Deniz Lisesi) and then the naval school (Deniz Harp Okulu) , which he graduated in 1958. He then found use on various ships and other naval units as an engineer, communications, navigation and operations officer. He then graduated from the Naval Academy (Deniz Harp Akademisi) and the Armed Forces Academy (Silahlı Kuvetler Akademisi) between 1968 and 1971 .

Erdil was then first officer of the TCG Gemlik and then head of the operations department of the warship squadron as well as the commander of the TCG Istanbul . After serving as head of unit for NATO planning and deputy head of the department for organizational planning in the High Command of the Navy, he was a graduate of the US Naval War College (NWC) in Newport between 1977 and 1978 . After working as a lecturer at the Naval Academy from 1978 to 1979, he was a naval attaché at the embassy in the USA between 1979 and 1981 . After his return to Turkey he was first in command of the 2nd Schnellboot Flotilla and then from 1982 to 1983 commander of the 1st Destroyer Flotilla.

Promotion to admiral

In 1983 Erdil was promoted to Flotilla Admiral (Tuğamiral) and appointed head of the intelligence services department in the General Staff of Turkey . He was then from 1985 to 1987 commander of the naval units in the Black Sea (Karadeniz Bölge Komutanlığı) in Ereğli . After his promotion to Rear Admiral (Tümamiral) in 1987 he was first commander of the naval units for the Bosporus (İstanbul Boğaz Komutanlığı) in Anadolu Kavağı and then as successor to Rear Admiral Güven Erkaya from 1988 to 1990 commander of the miners' associations (Mayın Filosu elığı between.) 1990 and 1992 served as the head of the operations department in the Navy High Command.

On August 30, 1992 Erdil was promoted to Vice Admiral (Koramiral) and initially took over between 1992 and 1993 the task of commander of the Naval Training Command (Deniz Eğitim Komutanlığı) . He was then the successor to Vice Admiral Salim Dervişoğlu from 1993 to 1995 Chief of Staff of the High Command of the Navy and again as the successor to Dervişoğlu between 1995 and 1997 also Commander in Chief of the Naval Regional Command North ( Kuzey Deniz Saha Komutanlığı ) in Istanbul , which was responsible for the Marmara Sea , Black Sea , Bosphorus and Dardanelles is responsible.

Erdil was after his promotion to admiral (Oramiral) on August 30, 1997 commander in chief of the naval command (Donanma Komutanlığı) and thus again successor Dervişoğlu. Most recently he was on August 26, 1999 as the successor to Admiral Salim Dervişoğlu and Commander in Chief of the Navy (Deniz Kuvetleri Komutanı) . He held this position until August 24, 2001 and was then replaced by Admiral Bülent Alpkaya .

Erdil is married and has one child.
