İrfan Tınaz

İrfan Tınaz (* 1929 in Istanbul ) is a former Turkish admiral who was Secretary General of the National Security Council ( Millî Güvenlik Kurulu ) between 1987 and 1988 and most recently from 1990 to 1992 Commander in Chief of the Navy (Türk Deniz Kuvvetleri) .

Life

After attending school in 1951, Tınaz entered the naval school (Deniz Harp Okulu) and graduated in 1953 as an ensign at sea (Asteğmen) . He then found use as an officer on destroyers and other naval units before he graduated from the Naval Academy (Deniz Harp Akademisi) in 1963 . This was followed by assignments as an officer in the staff of the 2nd Destroyer Flotilla as well as on board the TCG Bartin and as commander of the TCG Gemlik . After several other posts in the high command of the Navy, he served as a naval attaché at the embassy in the USA between 1971 and 1973 and, after his return, as a commodore of the II destroyer flotilla.

1974 Tınaz was promoted to Flotilla Admiral (Tuğamiral) and initially appointed as the successor to Flotilla Admiral Orhan Karabulut as the commander of the naval school. He was then commodore of the amphibious squadron and then head of the department for basic planning in the high command of the Navy. In 1978 he was promoted to Rear Admiral (Tümamiral) and appointed head of the personnel department in the Navy High Command. Subsequently he was commander of the naval units for the Bosphorus (İstanbul Boğaz Komutanlığı) in Anadolu Kavağı , which belong to the regional command north, and then commander of the naval training command (Deniz Eğitim Komutanlığı) , before he was commodore of the warship squadron (Harp Filosu) .

After his promotion to Vice Admiral (Koramiral) Tınaz was 1982 Head of the Department of Intelligence in the General Staff of Turkey and then Chief of the Staff of the High Command of the Navy. This was followed by his appointment as Commander-in-Chief of the Northern Naval Command ( Kuzey Deniz Saha Komutanlığı ) in Istanbul, which is responsible for the Marmara Sea , Black Sea , Bosporus and Dardanelles , before he was again Chief of Staff of the Naval High Command.

On August 26, 1987 Tınaz was appointed as the successor to General Hüsnü Çelenkler General Secretary of the National Security Council (Millî Güvenlik Kurulu) and shortly afterwards on August 30, 1987 also promoted to Admiral (Oramiral) . On August 22, 1988 he was succeeded Admiral Orhan Karabulut Commander in Chief of the Naval Command (Donanma Komutanlığı) , while Sabri Yirmibeşoğlu was his successor as Secretary General of the National Security Council.

Most recently, Admiral Tınaz was again on August 20, 1990 as the successor to Admiral Orhan Karabulut Commander-in-Chief of the Navy (Deniz Kuvetleri Komutanı) and remained in this office until August 20, 1992. He was then replaced by Admiral Vural Beyazıt and retired. Karabulut is married and has one child.
