Necdet uranium

Necdet Uran (* 1910 in Istanbul ; † February 14, 1973 in Rome ) was a Turkish admiral who was Commander-in-Chief of the Navy ( Türk Deniz Kuvvetleri ) from 1961 to 1968 and Ambassador to the Holy See between 1968 and his death in 1973 .

Life

Training as a naval officer

After finishing the naval cadet institute (Deniz Lisesi), Uran entered the naval school (Deniz Harp Okulu) , which he graduated on November 1, 1930 as an ensign at sea (Asteğmen) . After being promoted to lieutenant at sea (Teğmen) , he was used on the light cruiser Hamidiye and on the Zafer . This was followed by uses as a torpedo officer on the battle cruiser TCG Yavuz and as a navigation officer on the Kocatepe , before attending a course for artillery officers on the Hamidiye .

After Uran had graduated from the Naval Academy (Deniz Harp Akademisi) , he was promoted to Korvettenkapitän (Binbaşı) in 1942 and then worked on the staff of the Chief of Staff of the Fleet, where he was head of the personnel section from 1944 to 1945. From 1945 to 1946 he was chief of staff of the warship squadron and then commander of the Tınaztepe . During this use he was promoted to frigate captain (Yarbay) in 1947 . In the following years he was in command of the Zafer and an officer in the staff of the Chief of Staff of the armed forces and in the high command of the Navy.

Thereafter, uranium was deputy commander of the Naval School from 1950 to 1951 and commander of Gaziantep in 1951 and 1952 . After being promoted to sea captain ("Albay"), he became the commandant of the naval school in 1952 and remained at this post until 1954. This was followed by posts as head of the personnel department in the naval high command, as commander of the fighter flotilla and as head of the planning and operations department in the naval high command.

Commander in Chief of the Navy and Ambassador

In this application he was promoted to Flotilla Admiral ("Tuğamiral") in 1957 . As such, he was between 1958 and 1960 head of the naval delegation in Malta and then commander of the warship squadron (Harp Filosu) . In 1960 uranium was promoted to rear admiral ("Tümamiral").

On June 20, 1961, uranium was the successor to Vice Admiral Ahmet Zeki Özak Commander in Chief of the Navy ("Türk Deniz Kuvetleri"). Shortly thereafter, he was promoted to Vice Admiral ("Koramiral") in 1961 and to Admiral ("Oramiral") in 1963. He held the post of Commander-in-Chief of the Navy until he was retired on August 16, 1968 at his own request.

He then succeeded Hüveyda Mayatepek as ambassador to the Holy See . He held this post until his death. He was succeeded by Taha Carım . Uran was married and had two children.

The Necdet Uran Marşı , a military march of the Turkish Navy, was named after him .
