Orhan Karabulut

Orhan Karabulut (* 1927 in İzmit , Kocaeli Province ) is a former Turkish admiral who was Secretary General of the National Security Council ( Millî Güvenlik Kurulu ) between 1985 and 1986 and, most recently, Supreme Commander of the Navy (Türk Deniz Kuvetleri) from 1988 to 1990 .

Life

Karabulut entered the naval school (Deniz Harp Okulu) after attending school in 1948 and graduated in 1950 as an ensign at sea (Asteğmen) . He then found use on various ships as a systems officer and first officer . In 1964 he graduated from the Naval Academy (Deniz Harp Akademisi) and was then commander of the corvette TCG Bodrum , the TCG Gaziantep and the TCG Istanbul . After a use as a naval attaché at the embassy in the United Kingdom from 1968 to 1970, he was on his return Commodore II. Destroyer - Flotilla and then Head of Logistics Planning in the High Command of the Navy.

After being promoted to flotilla admiral (Tuğamiral) in 1973, Karabulut became the commander of the naval school, then in 1974 the commander of the Dardanelles naval units (Çanakkale Boğaz Komutanlığı) at the naval base in Nara in the province of Çanakkale , a unit belonging to the Sıkı Komutaniz Marine Regional Command North (Kuzeyutaniz) . In 1977 Karabulut was promoted to Rear Admiral (Tümamiral) and took over the function of head of the operations department in the High Command of the Navy and then from 1979 to 1981 as commodore of the warship squadron (Harp Filosu) . In 1981 he was promoted to Vice Admiral (Koramiral) and appointed Chief of Staff of the High Command of the Navy, before he served from 1983 to 1985 as Commander of the North Regional Command of the Navy with its headquarters in the Istanbul naval base. He was thus the commander of the naval units in the Bosporus , Marmara Sea and the Black Sea .

On August 19, 1985 Karabulut was appointed as the successor to General Halit Nusret Toroslu as Secretary General of the National Security Council (Millî Güvenlik Kurulu) and shortly afterwards on August 30, 1985 also promoted to Admiral (Oramiral) . On August 20, 1986 he became Commander in Chief of the Fleet Command (Donanma Komutanlığı) , while General Hüsnü Çelenkler was his successor as Secretary General of the National Security Council.

Most recently, Admiral Karabulut succeeded Admiral Emin Göksan as Commander-in-Chief of the Navy (Deniz Kuvetleri Komutanı) on August 22, 1988 and remained in this position until August 20, 1990. He was then replaced by Admiral İrfan Tınaz and retired. Karabulut is married and has two children.
