Salim Dervişoğlu

Salim Dervişoğlu (* 1936 in İzmit , Kocaeli Province ) is a former Turkish admiral who was last from 1997 to 1999 Commander in Chief of the Navy (Türk Deniz Kuvvetleri) .

Life

Naval officer and staff officer

Dervişoğlu entered the naval cadet institute (Deniz Lisesi) in 1951 and then the naval school (Deniz Harp Okulu) , which he graduated in 1957. He then worked in various posts as an officer and first officer on various ships and in other naval units. In 1967 he was a graduate of the Naval Academy (Deniz Harp Akademisi) . He was in command of the patrol boat TCG Demirhisar from 1970 to 1971 and then studied management in the USA from 1972 to 1973 before he was first in command of the destroyer TCG Gayret (D-352) , previously known as the USS Eversole, from 1973 to 1974 (DD-789) served in the US Navy .

Subsequently, Dervişoğlu was between 1974 and 1977 officer for financial planning in the international military staff of NATO in Brussels and from 1977 to 1978 head of division for operational planning in the high command of the Navy. He then acted as commodore III between 1978 and 1980. Destroyer flotilla and briefly in 1980 as head of deployment and training planning in the Navy High Command, before he became head of the press and public relations department in the newly founded National Security Council ( Millî Güvenlik Konseyi ) after the military coup on September 12, 1980 .

Promotion to admiral

On August 30, 1981 Dervişoğlu was promoted to Flotilla Admiral (Tuğamiral) and took over the function of head of the personnel department in the High Command of the Navy. He then became head of the basic planning department at the headquarters of the Allied Naval Forces Southern Europe NAVSOUTH (Allied Naval Forces Southern Europe) in Naples in 1983 and in 1985 commodore of the landing and amphibious craft squadron (Çıkarma Filosu Komutanlığı) and finally commander of the Naval Academy.
