Ahmet Zeki Özak

Ahmet Zeki Özak (* 1900 in Istanbul ; † June 30, 1982 ) was a Turkish admiral who was last from 1960 to 1961 commander-in-chief of the Navy ( Türk Deniz Kuvetleri ) .

Life

After attending school, Özak entered the so-called war class ( Harbiye Sınıfı ) on September 1, 1920 , which he finished as a lieutenant in 1923 . Then he completed from March 1, 1923 to October 15, 1924 a further military training at the Sınıf Okulu and was then used as an officer in various units. After attending the Naval Academy ( Deniz Harp Akademisi ) from 1933 to 1936 , he served in the following years as an officer on various ships and as a staff officer .

In 1950, Özak was promoted to flotilla admiral and at the same time was appointed deputy head of the operations department in the Navy High Command, before he was subsequently deputy commander of the warship associations and then commander of the Istanbul naval base . He then acted as deputy commander of the naval command for the Bosphorus , Dardanelles and Marmara Sea and then as deputy chief of the naval staff. After he was promoted to Rear Admiral in 1953 , he was first chief of the naval staff and was then again deputy commander of the naval command for the Bosphorus, Dardanelles and Marmara Sea.

In 1955, Özak was promoted to vice admiral and appointed commander of the naval training command. He then became commander of the naval command for the Bosphorus, Dardanelles and the Sea of ​​Marmara ( Boğazlar ve Marmara Denizi Kolordu Komutanlığı ) and was then a member of the Supreme Military Council as Commander in Chief of the Naval Command ( Donanma Komutanlığı ).

On June 21, 1960, after the military coup , Özak succeeded Admiral Fahri Korutürk as acting Supreme Commander of the Navy and held this position until he was retired on June 19, 1961, at his own request . He was then succeeded by Admiral Necdet Uran .

By a decision of the State Council ( Danıştay ) on August 30, 1968 he was subsequently promoted to admiral.
