Anadolu Kavağı is located on the eastern bank of the Bosphorus at the penultimate bottleneck before it flows into the Black Sea , north of Beykoz and Istanbul .

Anadolu Kavağı is a small town north of the city center of Istanbul on the Bosporus in Turkey . It is known for its fish restaurants and the nearby ruined Yoros castle from the 13th and 17th centuries.

Anadolu Kavağı is strategically located on the eastern bank of the Bosphorus near the mouth of the Black Sea , which is why the place was used as a trading port and military base from an early age, as evidenced by the ruins of Yoros Castle , which are located in the south of the village at an approx. 200  m high hill is located. Ancient and Middle Ages

The area of ​​today's Anadolu Kavağı was a Greek colony in ancient times . The Greeks built a temple complex on the hill near Anadolu Kavağı. a. in honor of the god Zeus . Later, Anadolu Kavağı was several times the battleground against attackers from the north, such as B. the Teutons in the 3rd century. Modern times

Transport and economy

The military base blocked the access road to the place, so that Anadolu Kavağı was difficult to access by land for a long time. However, the place can be easily reached with the Bosporus steamers, which operate from Eminönü and Beşiktaş , two Istanbul districts on the southern Bosporus. In its history, Anadolu Kavağı was often a haven for seafarers and merchant ships during storms. While fishing used to be one of the main sources of income, the place with some restaurants is now a popular tourist destination because of its partly original buildings and the nearby Yoros castle ruins.
