action

On the night of August 30th to 31st, 1997 Diana Spencer and her partner Dodi Al-Fayed were chased through Paris by paparazzi in their car. In the Alma underpass near the Alma Bridge, the car crashes into a tunnel pillar at high speed. Dodi Al-Fayed and the driver Henri Paul die at the scene of the accident, Diana only a few hours later in the hospital. The journalist Rachel Visco, who visits her friend, the police officer Thomas Sylvestre, in Paris suspects a conspiracy. Since video recordings from the tunnel do not officially exist, the English court has banned an autopsy and important information is kept secret by the French police, Rachel and Thomas want to solve the case on their own. Rachel has developed the theory that the driver was blinded by Diana with a light cannon, as the British secret service MI6 had planned with the then Yugoslav President Slobodan Milošević . In particular, the suggestion made at the time to carry out the attack in a tunnel, because this would increase the risk to life, is the decisive indicator for Rachel that MI6 is the author of the attack. During their research, Rachel and Thomas encounter increasing resistance and are threatened. Thomas receives the information that there is a video of the accident, but is murdered before meeting his contact person. When Rachel also wants to meet the contact person, she has an accident in a tunnel after being distracted by a flash of light. Days later, she woke up in the hospital and received the video tape from the police, which was erased.

“The romantic subplot is as unnecessary as it is annoying and the main character is a bit too heroic. Nevertheless: The story is convincingly knitted and the tension is held through to the end. "
