Mehmet Ali Keskiner

Mehmet Ali Keskiner (* 1906 in Istanbul ; † February 16, 1989 ibid) was a Turkish general who was Commander-in-Chief of the 2nd Army between 1960 and 1962 and Commander-in- Chief of the Land Forces ( Türk Kara Kuvvetleri ) from 1962 to 1964 .

Life

After attending school, Keskiner began training at the Kuleli Askerî Lisesi , the oldest military cadet institute of the Ottoman Empire founded by Sultan Abdülmecid I in Çengelköy on September 21, 1845 . During the War of Liberation , he joined the National Army on March 1, 1923 and then graduated from the Army School ( Kara Harp Okulu ) between August 23, 1923 and August 1, 1924 . In 1924 he was promoted to lieutenant ( Teğmen ) and later graduated from the artillery school ( Topçu Okulu ) and a riding school. After that he was a platoon leader of an artillery battery and an officer in other artillery units before he graduated from the Army Academy ( Kara Harp Akademisi ) between 1932 and 1935 . For the next nearly twenty years he was used as an officer and staff officer in various military units.

After his promotion to Brigadier General ( Tuğgeneral ) Keskiner was deputy head of the artillery department in the headquarters of the land forces in 1954 and then in 1955 commander of the 29th division. In 1956 he was promoted to major general ( Tümgeneral ) and head of the logistics department in the headquarters of the land forces and then between 1957 and 1958 commander of the 61st Division, before he was head of the replenishment department at the headquarters of the land forces from 1958 to 1959. In 1959 he was promoted to Lieutenant General ( Korgeneral ) and then took over the post of Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the 2nd Army and then President of the Supreme Military Court ( Askeri Yargıtay Başkanlığı ) and Commander of Martial Law in Ankara ( Ankara Sıkıyönetim Komutanlığ ).

As the successor to General Muhittin Önür , Keskiner became Commander-in-Chief of the 2nd Army ( İkinci Ordu ) on June 28, 1960 and held this position until he was replaced by General Refik Tulga on February 23, 1962. He himself then became his successor on February 23, 1962 from General Muhittin Önür as commander in chief of the land forces ( Kara Kuvetleri Komutanlığı ). In this capacity he was promoted to General ( Orgeneral ) in 1963 and replaced on August 28, 1964 by General Cemal Tural as Commander in Chief of the Land Forces. A week earlier he himself became a member of the Supreme Military Council ( Yüksek Askerî Şûra ) on August 21, 1964 , to which he was a member until his retirement on July 17, 1965.

Keskiner was married and had three children. After his death he was buried in Istanbul's Karacaahmet Cemetery ( Karacaahmet Mezarlığı ).
