Ahmet Nurettin Aknoz

Ahmet Nurettin Aknoz (* 1898 in Istanbul ; † June 21, 1964 ) was a Turkish general and politician of the Democratic Party (DP), who was among other things commander-in-chief of the army (Türk Kara Kuvvetleri) between 1956 and 1957 and a member of the Great National Assembly of Turkey (Türkiye Büyük Millet Meclisi) was.

Life

After attending school in 1914, Aknoz began an officer training course at the Army School ( Kara Harp Okulu ) , which he completed as an ensign (Asteğmen) . After the First World War he was from September 19, 1918 to December 25, 1919 in captivity in Egypt . After his release and his participation in the war of liberation , he was transferred to an artillery battalion in Anatolia on August 3, 1921 , where he was first platoon leader and later battery chief . In 1927 he completed his training as a staff officer at the Army Academy ( Kara Harp Akademisi ) and subsequently found numerous posts as an officer and staff officer in various army units.

After being promoted to Brigadier General (Tuğgeneral) , Aknoz was first commander of the 3rd Tank Brigade in 1945 and then commander of the 1st Tank Brigade and finally deputy commander of the 1st Tank Division. In 1947 he was promoted to major general (Tümgeneral) and initially acted as commander of the 1st Panzer Division. He then became head of the department for motor vehicles, equipment, supply and repair in the General Staff of Turkey and then head of the resulting equipment department in the General Staff. Thereupon he exercised the position as commander of the 4th division and finally as deputy commanding general of the II Corps.

After Aknoz was promoted to lieutenant general (co- general ) in 1951 , he became head of the equipment department in the general staff and then commanding general of the 2nd Corps and finally deputy commander in chief of the 3rd Army (Üçüncü Ordu) .

1955 Aknoz was promoted to General (Orgeneral) and acted from September 9, 1955 as the successor to General Hakkı Tunaboylu until his replacement by General Vedat Garan on June 16, 1956 as Commander in Chief of the 1st Army (Birinci Ordu) . Most recently, on June 25, 1956, he was again the successor to General Hakkı Tunaboylu, as the Army Commander-in-Chief (Türk Kara Kuvetleri) . He remained in this post until his retirement on September 16, 1957 and his subsequent replacement by General İbrahim Necati Tacan .

In the election of September 27, 1957 Aknoz was elected for the Democrat Parti (DP) as a member of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (Türkiye Büyük Millet Meclisi) and represented it during the eleventh legislative period from February 1, 1958 to May 27, 1960 the interests of Tekirdağ .

Aknoz, who was married with two children, was buried in the Zincirlikuyu Cemetery (Zincirlikuyu Mezarlığı) after his death .
