Fikret Esen
Fikret Esen (* 1908 in Istanbul ; † February 9, 1996 ibid) was a Turkish general who was, among other things, from 1962 to 1966 commander in chief of the gendarmerie ( Jandarma ) and in 1969 commander in chief of the army (Türk Kara Kuvetleri) .
Life
After attending school, Esen graduated from the Army School ( Harp Okulu ) and graduated in 1928 as an ensign (Asteğmen) . In 1930 he was also a graduate of the Artillery School (Topçu Sınıf Okulu) and was then a platoon driver and battery chief . In 1933 he began his training as a staff officer at the Army Academy ( Harp Akademisi ) , which he completed in 1936. He then found numerous uses as an officer and staff officer in various military units such as the headquarters of the Allied Forces Southern Europe (AFSOUTH) of NATO in Naples .
After his promotion to Brigadier General (Tuğgeneral) he was first deputy head of the logistics department in the General Staff of Turkey and then deputy commander of the 28th division. In 1959 he was promoted to major general (Tümgeneral) and appointed deputy commander of the Ankara garrison . Then he was again deputy head of the logistics department in the general staff and then deputy commanding general of the VIII. Corps, before he was finally deputy commanding general of the XV. Corps was.
On July 25, 1962 Esen was promoted to lieutenant general (co- general ) and appointed as the successor to lieutenant general Fahri Ogan as commander in chief of the gendarmerie (Jandarma) . He remained in this position until July 12, 1966, when he was replaced by General Haydar Sükan . During this time he was promoted to General (Orgeneral) in 1964 and took over on July 12, 1966 from General Memduh Tağmaç the function of Commander in Chief of the VIII and IX. Corps existing 3rd Army (Üçüncü Ordu) with headquarters in Erzincan . In this function he was replaced by General Refet Ülgenalp and took over again on August 29, 1967 from General Refik Tulga as Deputy Chief of the General Staff (Genelkurmay Başkanı) of the armed forces (Türk Silahlı Kuvetleri) .
Most recently General Esen was on March 17, 1969 as the successor to General Memduh Tağmaç Commander-in-Chief of the Army (Türk Kara Kuvvetleri) . Only five months later he was released from this position at his own request on August 30, 1969 and retired. His successor as Commander-in-Chief of the Army was then General Nazmi Karakoç , who was previously Commander-in-Chief of the 2nd Army .
Esen, who was married with one son, was buried in the Karacaahmet Cemetery (Karacaahmet Mezarlığı) in Istanbul after his death .
