Haydar Sükan

Haydar Sükan (* 1911 in Edirne ; † May 16, 1995 in Istanbul ) was a Turkish general of the army (Türk Kara Kuvvetleri) , who was commander of the gendarmerie ( Jandarma Genel Komutanı ) between 1966 and 1968 and commander of the 1. Army (Birinci Ordu) was.

Life

After visiting the renowned Işıklar Askeri Lisesi cadet institute in Bursa in 1928, Sükan began training as an officer at the Army School ( Kara Harp Okulu ) and then found employment as an officer and staff officer in various army units. As major general (Tümgeneral) he was military representative at the Central Pact Organization CENTO ( Central Treaty Organization ) and then as lieutenant general (co- general ) commanding general of the V Corps (V. Kolordu) .

On July 12, 1966, Sükan was promoted to general (orgeneral) and appointed as the successor to General Fikret Esen to commander of the gendarmerie ( Jandarma Genel Komutanı ) . He held this post until August 22, 1968 and was then replaced by General Kemal Atalay . On August 22, 1968, he himself succeeded General Memduh Tağmaç as commander of the 1st Army (Birinci Ordu) stationed in Istanbul's Selimiye barracks . He held this position until August 29, 1969 and was then replaced again by General Kemal Atalay. Most recently he was from August 29, 1969 until his retirement on August 30, 1971, head of the intelligence service in the General Staff of Turkey .
