history

Difficult to decipher stamp on the fabric body of a wax head doll

The company was founded in 1878 and, according to its logo, was both an importer and an exporter of dolls, toys and games. The company also made its own dolls and can be identified by a mostly illegible oval stamp with the words Dolls TOYS & GAMES / F. ALDIS / 11 & 13 / BELGRAVE MANSIONS SW on the bodies of the dolls.

Some of the Aldis creations were made of wax dolls from the Pierotti company, also based in London . Aldis also made - in high quality - its own wax heads with inserted glass eyes and limbs made of wax.

The company existed until 1901.
