Erdal Ceylanoğlu

Erdal Ceylanoğlu (* 1945 in Kayseri , Kayseri Province ) is a former Turkish general who was Commander-in-Chief of the Land Forces ( Türk Kara Kuvetleri ) between 2010 and 2011 .

Life

After attending school, Ceylanoğlu began an officer training at the Army School ( Kara Harp Okulu ), which he completed in 1966. After graduating from the Infantry School ( Piyade Okulu ) in 1967 , he found various uses as an officer such as a platoon leader . After completing the staff officer course at the Army Academy ( Kara Harp Akademisi ), he was first head of a training company at the Army School in 1976 and then a member of the command staff of the Army Academy, before he was head of the staff of the 4th Tank Brigade. This was followed by assignments in the special secretariat of the commander-in-chief of the land forces and as commander of a regiment of the occupation forces in Cyprus KTBK ( Kıbrıs Türk Barış Kuvvetleri ).

After his promotion to Brigadier General ( Tuğgeneral ) Ceylanoğlu was 1992 head of the education and training department at the headquarters of the land forces and then in 1994 commander of the 39th Mechanized Infantry Brigade ( 39th Mekanize Piyade Tugayı ). In 1996 he was promoted to major general ( Tümgeneral ) and as such he was appointed commander of the military schools and the training division. He was then from 1998 to 2000 Deputy Commanding General and Chief of Staff of the Education and Training Command of the Land Forces and from 2000 to 2002 Commander of the National Security Academy ( Milli Güvenlik Akademisi ).

On August 30, 2007 Ceylanoğlu was promoted to general ( Orgeneral ) and took over the post of commander of the training and training command ( Eğitim ve Doktrin Komutanlığı ) in Ankara . On August 30, 2010, he was originally supposed to succeed General Hasan Iğsız as Commander-in-Chief of the 1st Army ( Birinci Ordu ) stationed in the Selimiye barracks in Istanbul 's Üsküdar district . However, since Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's appointment of Iğsız as commander-in-chief of the army was rejected, Ceylanoğlu himself succeeded General Işık Koşaner as commander-in-chief of the land forces. Koşaner, in turn, became Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces and succeeded General İlker Başbuğ . On July 29, 2011, Koşaner and the entire army command (Supreme Commander of the Land Forces General Ceylanoğlu, Supreme Commander of the Naval Forces Admiral Eşref Uğur Yiğit and Supreme Commander of the Air Forces General Hasan Aksay ) resigned because of differences of opinion with the Erdoğan government. His successor as commander-in-chief of the land forces was then General Necdet Özel on July 29, 2001 , who had previously been commander-in-chief of the gendarmerie.

Erdal Ceylanoğlu is married to Şule Ceylanoğlu and has two children. In addition to Turkish, he also speaks English .
