Mehmet Hikmet Bayar

Mehmet Hikmet Bayar (* 1932 in Gölcük , Kocaeli ) is a former Turkish general who was, among other things, commander of the 3rd Army (Üçüncü Ordu) between 1990 and 1992, commander of the 1st Army (Birinci Ordu) from 1993 to 1994 and most recently between 1994 and 1996 Commander of the Turkish Land Forces (Türk Kara Kuvetleri) was.

Life

Bayar began after visiting the renowned Kuleli cadet institute (Kuleli Askerî Lisesi) in 1951 an officer training at the Army School ( Kara Harp Okulu ) , which he completed in 1953 as an ensign (Asteğmen) of the artillery . After attending the Artillery Troop School (Topçu Sınıf Okulu) he was employed as a platoon leader in an artillery battery and as a surveying officer in artillery units. After attending the Army Academy ( Kara Harp Akademisi ) from 1965 to 1967 , he found employment as an officer and staff officer in other army units and on the staff of the Military Representative of Turkey in the NATO Military Committee in Brussels .

In 1978 Bayar was promoted to Brigadier General (Tuğgeneral) and was initially head of the Operations Planning Division in the General Staff of Turkey and then from 1980 to 1982 commander of the 1st Tank Brigade. After his promotion to Major General (Tümgeneral) he was Chief of Staff of the 3rd Army between 1982 and 1984 and then from 1984 to 1986 commander of the 3rd Mechanized Division.

After Bayar was promoted to lieutenant general (co- general ) in 1986 , he first took over the post as head of the operations department in the general staff of the armed forces TSK (Türk Silahlı Kuvvetleri) and then from 1988 to 1990 as commanding general of the IV Corps (IV Kolordu) in Ankara .

After his promotion to general (Orgeneral) Bayar succeeded General Nezihi Çakar as commander of the 3rd Army (Üçüncü Ordu) in Erzincan , which consisted of the VIII. Corps in Elazığ and the IX. Corps in Erzurum exists. He held this post until his replacement by General Teoman Koman on August 17, 1992. He himself was then commander of the Allied Land Forces of NATO in Southeastern Europe LANDSOUTHEAST (Allied Land Forces South-Eastern Europe) in Buca between 1992 and 1993 , before he was on August 17, 1993 successor to General İsmail Hakkı Karadayı as commander of the 1st Army (Birinci Ordu) in the Istanbul Selimiye barracks , which consisted of the II. Corps in Gelibolu , the III. Corps in Şişli and the V Corps in Çorlu . He remained in this use until August 22, 1994 and was then replaced by General Hikmet Köksal .

Most recently, Bayar replaced General İsmail Hakkı Karadayı on August 24, 1994, this time as commander of the Turkish Land Forces (Türk Kara Kuvvetleri) . He held this position until his retirement on August 27, 1996, after which he was again replaced by General Hikmet Köksal.

Bayar, who is married and has two children, speaks not only Turkish but also English .
