Rob Bauer (* 1962 in Amsterdam ) is a Dutch admiral . He has been in command of the Dutch Armed Forces since 2017 .

Life

In 1981 Bauer joined the armed forces of his home country and began his officer training at the Dutch Naval Academy ( Koninklijk Instituut voor de Marine ) in Den Helder , which he completed in 1984.

Military career

After various tasks at sea and on land, Bauer took command of the frigate De Ruyter (one of the four ships of the De Zeven Provinciën class ) from 2005 to 2007 . From 2010 to 2011 he was in command of the Johan de Witt ( Rotterdam class ).

In April 2011 he was promoted to commodore and in March 2012 to rear admiral ( Schout-bij-Nacht ) and took on various planning and administrative tasks over the next few years. In September 2015, he was promoted to Vice Admiral and appointed Deputy Commander of the Dutch Armed Forces. He resigned in July 2017 and was preparing to take over as Armed Forces Commander (he was handed over on September 22). Associated with this was the promotion to admiral ( Luitenant-admiraal ).

Private

The admiral is married. He and his wife have three children.
