François Lecointre (2017)

François Lecointre (born February 6, 1962 in Cherbourg in the Manche department ) is a French Général d'armée . He has been Chief of the French General Staff since July 20, 2017 .

Life

François Lecointre was born in Normandy in 1962 . He is married and has four children.

Military career

Promotions

In 1984, de Lecointre entered the Saint-Cyr Military School for officer training. After graduation, deployments followed in 1987 with various units of the marine infantry of the French armed forces . From 1996 to 1999 he himself worked as a trainer at the military school in Coëtquidan . From 2001 to 2005 he was deployed on the General Staff in Paris. In 2005 he became the commandant of the 3rd Marine Infantry Regiment. On August 1, 2011, he was promoted to Général de brigade .

With the rank of general, he was stationed in Poitiers between 2011 and April 2013, initially as commander of the 9th light marine tank brigade , and from January to August 2013 first commander of the European Union Training Mission Mali . From 2013 to 2016 he was on the General Staff in Paris. While doing this, he was promoted to Général de division on August 1, 2015 . From 2016 he worked as a military advisor to the Prime Minister. In this post he was promoted to Général de corps d'armée on March 1, 2017 . On July 19, 2017 he was promoted to Général d'armée and on July 20, succeeding Pierre de Villiers , he was appointed Chief of the French General Staff.
