Nick Carter (General)
Sir Nicholas Patrick Carter GCB CBE DSO ADC Gen (born February 11, 1959 in Nairobi ) is a British general . He has been the Chief of the Defense Staff for the United Kingdom Armed Forces since June 2018 . Prior to that, he was Chief of the General Staff from 2014 to 2018, Commander of the Land Forces .
Life
Nick Carter was born in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya . After finishing school, he entered the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in 1977 and trained as an officer.
Military career
After his officer training, he first served in the Royal Green Jackets, an infantry regiment of the British Army. With this he completed several assignments at home and abroad.
As brigade commander, he led British troops in Iraq in 2003/04 and several times in Afghanistan between 2002 and 2013 . In between, he attended various further training courses during this time in order to qualify for higher tasks.
On December 31, 2013 he was promoted to Knight Commander of the Order of the Bath and has had the addition of "Sir" since then.
In 2014 he took over the post of Commander of the British Land Forces. In June 2018 he was appointed Chief of the Defense Staff to succeed Stuart Peach .
