Vera Lúcia Pereira da Silva Salgado (born September 12, 1967 in Inajá , Pernambuco ), politically known as Vera Lúcia , is a Brazilian politician , activist and was a nominee for the presidential election in Brazil in 2018 for the Partido Socialista dos Trabalhadores Unificado (PSTU).

Life

Vera Lúcia Salgado's family moved from Pernambuco to Aracaju, the capital of Sergipe State , when she was eleven . Her working life began at the age of 14, initially as a waitress, cleaning lady or typist, then at the age of 19 as a worker in the shoe industry. Here she became a union member, she had joined the Partido dos Trabalhadores (PT), but was excluded again in 1992 due to her militancy. In 1993/94 she took part in the founding of the PSTU. Politically, she belongs to the left-wing extremist spectrum. She had studied social sciences at the Universidade Federal de Sergipe .

She had applied for political office several times without success: in 2004, 2008 and 2012 as city prefect (mayor) for the municipality of Aracaju, in 2006 also as a candidate for the Chamber of Deputies in the National Congress , but only received 3756 votes.

She was nominated as a presidential candidate for the 2018 presidential election in Brazil .
