Sir Peter Anthony Wall , GCB , CBE (born July 10, 1955 in Ipswich , Suffolk ) is a former officer in the British Army , who was chief of the British Army General Staff between 2010 and 2014 .

Life

Peter Anthony Wall completed his education which was founded in 1596 Whitgift School and then began studying at Selwyn College of the University of Cambridge . He completed an officer training at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst (RMAS) and was in April 1974 Lieutenant (Second Lieutenant) of the Royal Engineers . He also completed a degree in engineering at the University of Cambridge and subsequently found numerous posts as an officer and staff officer.

In January 1999, Brigadier General (Brigadier) Wall, succeeding Brigadier Mark Elcomb commander ( Commanding Officer ) of the 24th Air Mobile Brigade (24th (Airmobile) Brigade) and had this command held until the dissolution of the brigade in September 1999th He then succeeded Brigadier General Edwin Beckett in September 1999, commander of the 16th Air Assault Brigade ( 16 Air Assault Brigade ) and remained in this role until December 2000, when Brigadier Barney White-Spunner was his successor. He then moved to the Permanent Joint Headquarters in Northwood for the first time in March 2001 , where he succeeded Brigadier General David J. Richards until he was replaced by Brigadier General Barney White-Spunner Chief of Joint Operations of the Armed Forces (Chief, Joint Force Operations) was. He was then in May 2003 as a Major General (Major-General) succeeds Major-General Robin Brims as commander ( General Officer Commanding ) of the 1st Armored Division ( 1st Armored Division ) . He held this position until January 2005 and was then replaced by Major General John Cooper . In February 2005 he took over again as the successor to Robin Brims in the permanent joint headquarters Northwood as deputy chief for joint operations (Deputy Chief, Joint Operations) and held this position until his replacement by Major General James Dutton in February 2007.

In August 2007, Lieutenant General (Lieutenant General) Peter Wall succeeds Vice Admiral Charles Style as deputy chief of the defense staff for operations (Deputy Chief of the Defense Staff (Commitments)) and had this post held until July 2009, then Lieutenant General Simon Mayall his successor started. During this time he was beaten on June 13, 2009 to Knight Commander of the Order of the Bath (KCB), so that from then on he carried the suffix "Sir". Thereupon General Sir Peter Anthony Wall replaced General David J. Richards as Commander-in-Chief of the UK Land Forces in July 2009 and remained in this position until September 2010, after which General Nick Parker became his successor there. He also acted as the successor to General Kevin O'Donoghue from 2009 until his replacement by Lieutenant General Mark Mans in 2013 as Chief Royal Engineer and thus as Chief of the Corps of Royal Engineers .

Most recently, General Wall took over again in September 2010 as the successor to General David J. Richards as Chief of the General Staff of the British Army, which he held until he retired from active military service in September 2014. His successor was then General Nick Carter . During this time he was also raised to the Knight Grand Cross of the Order of the Bath (GCB) on June 15, 2013 . He also became Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE).
