General Officer Commanding

General Officer Commanding ( GOC ) is the military title, a general of the British Army , which carries a formation commanded. A general who commands a particularly significant formation is also known as a General Officer Commanding-in-Chief ( GOC-in-C ).

In the Royal Air Force the corresponding designation is Air Officer Commanding , in the Royal Navy it is Flag Officer Commanding . The nomenclature was adopted, among other things, in various armed forces of the Commonwealth .

In the US armed forces , the term Commanding General is used differently .
