  • Essen / Germany : An attack on a Sikh temple at a wedding party there claims three injured. After investigations by the police, the suspicion of a terrorist background to the crime is increasing. Muslim youths arrested from the Salafist scene are said to have detonated the explosive device.
  • Muisne / Ecuador : A severe earthquake with a magnitude of 7.8 off the Ecuadorian coast claims immense damage to property at least 500 victims and over 4500 injured. The tourist areas around the resort of Pedernales and the port metropolis of Guayaquil are particularly affected .

  • Caracas / Venezuela : During the severe economic crisis, Energy Minister Luis Motta orders that the electricity supply for private households be switched off for 40 days for four hours a day. This applies in ten states. The reason for this is the persistent drought with the risk of the hydropower plant at the Guri reservoir collapsing . The brewery company Polar of the food company Empresas Polar also announced the discontinuation of production due to a lack of raw material purchases.

  • Potsdam / Germany : Helmuth Markov ( Die Linke ), Minister for Justice, Europe and Consumer Protection of the State of Brandenburg , resigns from his position because of a company car affair. During his time as finance minister and deputy prime minister in the summer of 2010, Markov is said to have illegally used a transporter from the national fleet to bring his motorcycle to the workshop.

  • Juba / South Sudan : Riek Machar , who was deposed by President Salva Kiir after rumors of a coup in 2013 , can return to his country from Ethiopia through the mediation of the United Nations and is sworn in again as Vice President of South Sudan in the presidential palace. Machar is the rebel leader of the split off from the armed forces (SPLM-IO) .
  • Praia / Cape Verde : On the island of Santiago , the police found eight soldiers, a civilian and two Spanish nationals murdered at a transmitter on Mount Tchota, which is also used by the armed forces , near Rui Vaz.   • Strasbourg / France : In the case of İzzettin Doğan and others v. In Turkey, the judges of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) ruled that the Turkish state violates the religious freedom of the Alevis and discriminates against them. In contrast to the majority of the Sunnis living in the country , the Alevis are denied rights and financial support.
  • New Delhi / India : The National Museum of Natural History, New Delhi (NMNH) is completely destroyed in a fire. The museum pieces include a roughly 160 million year old fossil of a sauropod and taxidermy exhibits from the Indian taxidermists Van Ingen & Van Ingen. The triggering of the fire can be determined on the sixth floor, where the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICC) is located. The sprinkler system turns out to be defective.

  • Paris / France : In several French cities, according to official estimates, over 170,000 people are taking part against the government's planned labor market reform. In Paris and Marseille, 24 police officers are injured, some seriously, in violent riots. According to police reports, a total of 124 demonstrators are temporarily arrested across the country.

  • Baghdad / Iraq: At least 24 people are killed and more than 30 injured in a car bomb attack by the terrorist organization Islamic State (IS) in the market in the eastern suburb of Nahrawan.
  • Nairobi / Kenya : As a signal against poaching and ivory smuggling, the government burns 16,000 confiscated tusks in the Nairobi National Park . The amount amounts to a total of 105 tonnes of ivory and 1.35 tonnes of rhinoceros horn, worth around 160 million euros. The Washington Convention on Endangered Species (CITES) banned the trade in ivory in 1989.
  • Nairobi / Kenya: After heavy rainfall, a six-story residential building in the Huruma district collapses. 33 fatalities have now been confirmed, over 70 people are missing. 150 families lived in the building that was supposed to be demolished because it was considered to be in danger of collapsing.
