Baglan (or Baghlan ; Pashto / Dari :بغلان, DMG Baġlān ) is a province in northern Afghanistan and has about 910,800 inhabitants.

The name is derived from the place Baglan . However, the administrative center of the province is Pol-e Chomri .

In the province there is a fire temple of Zoroastrianism near Surkh Kotal .

Administrative division

The province is divided into 16 districts:

Andarab, Baglan, Baghlani Jadid, Burka, Dahana i Ghuri, Dih Salah, Dushi, Farang wa Gharu, Guzargahi Nur, Khinjan, Khost wa Fereng, Khwaja Hijran, Nahrin, Pol-e Chomri, Puli Hisar and Tala wa Barfak.

economy

The experimental cultivation of sugar beet showed that the soils are well suited for cultivation. Yields of 50 to 70 tons per hectare are expected. With the establishment of the New Baghlan Sugar Company Ltd. The aim is to reduce the farmers' dependence on traditional crops. The German seed company KWS Saat is involved in the investment.

Military presence of the Bundeswehr

Until June 15, 2013, the Bundeswehr operated the military observation post “ Observation Post North ” in the province as part of the ISAF mission , which was also used by other ISAF troops from various nations. The post is expected to continue to be used by the Afghan armed forces.
