Zabul ( Pashto / Dari :زابل) is a province ( velayat ) in the south of Afghanistan .

It has 304,100 inhabitants.

Zabul is the only province in Afghanistan in which the Taliban named its own governor ( waali ) after the invasion of US troops , who competes with the governor appointed by the central government in Kabul .

In April 2003 the Taliban captured the Daychopan district, but the Afghan government troops were able to regain control immediately.

Zabul has had an airfield in Qalat since 2006.
