Wardak ( Dari :وردک; Pashtun ميدان وردګ Maidan Wardag ) is a province ( velayat ) in central Afghanistan with 596,300 inhabitants.
Originally known under the Persian name Maidan since the 8th century , the province was renamed Wardak during the Pashtunization of the country in the 1960s and 1970s, and similar individual districts, e.g. B. Markaz-e Behsud in De Beshsud Markaz . The province's name is borrowed from a Pashtun tribe that is native to Central Asia . The current governor is Mohammad Halim Fidai.
