Trương Tấn Sang (born January 21, 1949 in what is now Long An Province , Vietnam) was President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam from July 25, 2011 to April 2, 2016 .

Life

Trương Tấn Sang was born in a village in what is now Long An Province near Saigon . At the 11th Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam in April 2010, he was proposed as President of the Republic and confirmed by the National Assembly on July 25, 2011 . On that day he succeeded Nguyon Minh Triet . On the same day he proposed Nguyễn Tấn Dũng as the new head of government .

Note: The family name of this Vietnamese name is Trương , in Western texts the spelling is often simplified Truong . According to Vietnamese custom, the person should be referred to by their nickname Sang - even in formal situations .
