Nguyễn Phú Trọng

Nguyễn Phú Trọng (born April 14, 1944 in the community Đông Hội, Hanoi ) is a Vietnamese politician . He has been General Secretary of the Communist Party since January 19, 2011 and President of Vietnam since October 23, 2018.

He studied philology in Hanoi and received his doctorate in the Soviet Union. From June 26, 2006 to July 23, 2011, he was Chairman of the National Assembly of Vietnam . He is a member of the Politburo of the Communist Party of Vietnam and was elected General Secretary on January 19, 2011 . On October 23, 2018, Nguyễn Phú Trọng was elected President at a session of the National Assembly.
