Nông Ðức Mạnh

Nông Đức Mạnh (born September 11, 1940 in Bắc Kạn ) is a Vietnamese politician. He was General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam from April 22, 2001 to January 19, 2011 .

Life

His official biography states that he was a farmer's son from the Tay tribe and was born on September 11, 1940 in Cuong Loi, Na Ri District, Bắc Kạn Province . Widely regarded as a reformer , he has announced that he plans to turn Vietnam into an industrialized country by 2020.
