Võ Chí Công

Võ Chí Công (born August 7, 1912 in Tam Xuan , Tam Kỳ District , Quảng Nam Province, † September 8, 2011 in Ho Chi Minh City ) was a Vietnamese communist politician and president .

Politically active against the French occupation of Vietnam as early as 1930, Võ Chí Công was a founding member of the National Liberation Front in 1961 . After the reunification of Vietnam, he got a seat in the Politburo of the Communist Party and held various ministerial offices (fisheries, agriculture) before he became Deputy Prime Minister (1976-1982) and finally from 1987-1992 the President of Vietnam.

He died in September 2011 at the age of 99. The Vietnamese government ordered a state funeral .
