Jaish al-Muhadschirin wal-Ansar ( Arabic جيش المهاجرين والأنصار, DMG Ǧaiš al-Muhāǧirīn wa-l-Anṣār  'Army of Emigrants and Helpers ', also Jaish al-muhajirin wa-l-ansar , or JAMWA for short ) is a jihadist - Salafist organization in Syria . It was founded in 2012 and fought alongside the al-Nusra Front in the Syrian civil war against the government of Bashar al-Assad , parts of the Free Syrian Army (FSA) and Kurdish People's Defense Units (YPG).

The organization is classified as a terrorist organization by the governments of Canada and the United States . In Germany, JAMWA is classified as a foreign terrorist organization .

One of its former leaders was the military commander-in-chief of the terrorist organization Islamic State in Syria, Abu Omar al-Shishani .

The Islamist preacher Sven Lau is said to have acted as a link to JAMWA and in 2013 obtained three night vision devices for Islamist fighters in Syria, helped two men to leave for Syria and brought money to one of them. On July 26, 2017, Lau was sentenced to five and a half years imprisonment in four cases by the State Security Senate of the Düsseldorf Higher Regional Court for supporting a foreign terrorist organization .
