Sotra is an island west of Bergen in Norway with an area of ​​246 km² and 26,211 inhabitants.

It belongs to the municipality of Øygarden . Popularly , Sotra also includes the islands of Bildøy and Litlesotra ("Kleinsotra"). To the north of Sotra are the islands of Turøy and Misje .

The highest point on the island is called Liatårnet , 341 meters above sea level.

history

On the island was built during the German occupation of Norway a fortress . Remains of the Fjell Festning system from 1942/43 are still visible today. On April 30, 1942, the residents of Telavåg were victims of a punitive action by the Gestapo and the SS .
