Ming Pao ( Chinese  明 報  / 明 报 , Pinyin Míng Bào , W.-G. Ming Pao , Jyutping Ming 4 Bou 3 ) is a Chinese daily newspaper published by Ming Pao Newspapers Ltd. (明 報 報業 有限公司  / 明 报 报业 有限公司 ), a subsidiary of Media Chinese International Ltd. (世界 華文 媒體 有限公司  / 世界 华文 媒体 有限公司 ) in Hong Kong .

It was founded on May 20, 1959 by Cha Leung-yung ( 查良鏞 ) and Shen Pao Sing ( 沈 寶 新  /  沈 宝 新 ). In 1995 it was sold to the Malay entrepreneur Tiong Hiew King ( 張曉卿  /  张晓卿 ). In addition to the Hong Kong newspaper, the group also publishes 4 other newspapers in North America : Toronto , Vancouver , New York City and San Francisco .

In February 2014, the former editor-in-chief Kevin Lau ( 劉 進 圖  /  刘 进 图 ) was stabbed in the street and barely survived. In April 2016, Deputy Editor-in-Chief Keung Kwok-yuen ( 姜 國 元  /  姜 国 元 ) was dismissed without notice after reporting on the front page of Hong Kong celebrities, administrative officers and entrepreneurs mentioned in the Panama Papers ; the newspaper justified the termination with austerity measures.
