Kathleen Hallisey Rubins (born October 14, 1978 in Farmington , Connecticut ) is an American astronaut .

Astronaut activity

Rubins was elected to NASA's 20th astronaut group on June 29, 2009. She completed her basic training in June 2011.

In 2013 Rubins was nominated for a long-term stay aboard the ISS. It started on July 7, 2016, together with the Russian cosmonaut Anatoly Iwanischin and the Japanese astronaut Takuya Ōnishi in the Soyuz MS-01 spacecraft for the ISS. There she worked as a flight engineer for ISS expeditions 48 and 49 until October 30, 2016 . She was the first person to perform DNA sequencing in space.

Private

Rubins is married and has no children. Her hobbies are diving and triathlon .
