Ali Dschannati ( listen ^{? / I} Persian علی_جنتی/ Ali Jannati; * 1949 ) is an Iranian politician and diplomat . He was appointed Minister of Culture and Islamic Leadership of the Rouhani government in August 2013 .

Life

Dschannati is the son of Ayatollah and chairman of the Guardian Council Ahmad Dschannati and studied at the Haghani School, one of the regime's cadre schools. After joining the Revolutionary Guards , he became commander in chief of Khorasan Province , then Governor of Khuzestan Province . After moving to the state broadcaster Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting , he became legal counsel there . From 1998 to 2005 he was ambassador to Kuwait. After positions as Vice Minister in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Culture, he became Minister of Culture and Islamic Leadership in 2013.

When Federal Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier initiated a concert by Daniel Barenboim's orchestra in Iran and took over the patronage for it, the project failed in August 2015 because, according to Dschannati's ministry spokesman, his government “does not recognize the Zionist regime and also not with artists Regimes [will] work together ”. The “Zionist regime” refers to the State of Israel , whose citizenship is Barenboim alongside Palestine.
