The new Gotthard-Süd line (also known as the Biasca Open Line ) is the name given to the high-speed railway line between Bodio and the Giustizia area near Osogna in the canton of Ticino in Switzerland . It is being built as part of the New Railway Alpine Transversal (NEAT) and connects the south portal of the Gotthard Base Tunnel with the existing Gotthard Railway , bypassing the town of Biasca . The completion of the approximately 7.5 kilometer long, three-track line was planned for 2015. Most of the route runs along the A2 motorway , the Biasca junction of which it passes under in an opencast tunnel. As a result of the uncompromising alignment that goes hand in hand with the construction of high-speed lines, numerous other engineering structures were necessary, including a 103-meter-long solid reinforced concrete bridge over the Brenno River and numerous underpasses. Since it is an access route to the Gotthard Base Tunnel, the opening of the base tunnel coincided with that of the base tunnel on June 1, 2016 . The line is part of a future high-speed connection through the Sopraceneri .
