NEAT to the Axentunnel

The Urmibergtunnel is a railway tunnel project in the canton of Schwyz in Switzerland , which is part of the 2nd phase of the large-scale project New Railway Alpine Transversal and crosses under the Urmiberg at the southeastern foot of the Rigi between Arth and the Felderboden near Brunnen .

The project envisages an approximately 7 kilometer long tunnel, which is intended to relieve the previous route along the Lauerzersee in the Schwyz basin. Since the north portal may be in front of the important Arth-Goldau railway junction , regional political questions arose about the future significance of this junction. One proposed solution is to allow only freight trains to run through the Urmibergtunnel, which on the one hand would save costs in the expansion and on the other hand would not cut off the region with the towns of Arth, Goldau , Schwyz and Brunnen from the Gotthard line . A more expensive option would be to build a connecting tunnel to the Urmibergtunnel from Arth-Goldau. Another variant would be to reroute traffic via Rotkreuz . Further desires have arisen in the desire to cross under the field floor in the Brunnen / Ibach area, in advance for noise protection reasons.

The project is planned for the period between 2020 and 2030. Template: future / in 5 yearsAt the beginning of November 2010, the project was launched publicly.

Urmiberg road tunnel

A study on the southern bypass around Seewen has also emerged under the name Urmibergtunnel . This provides for a 1,100 m long road tunnel with oncoming traffic.
