Oberarth is one of the three villages in the municipality of Arth in the Schwyz district of the canton of Schwyz in Switzerland .

The village of Oberarth is located above Lake Zug at 453 m above sea level. NHN in a valley between the Rossberg and the Rigi .

In 2007 Oberarth had around 1,620 inhabitants.
geography
The Oberarth threshold is a natural obstacle. The 250 meter gap between the ledges of rock coming down from the Rossberg and the Rigi was closed in the 14th century by a Letzi wall that is still preserved today . During the Second World War , the threshold for the Oberarth locking point was used to secure the Reduite entrance .
history
Oberarth is the seat of the Fassbind distillery, which was founded in 1846 , and the Schmidlin steel bathtubs.
The town's St. Mary's Church, which dates from the 18th century, is under the protection of the Swiss Confederation.
From 1875 to 1959 the Arth-Rigi Railway ran from Arth through the Mühlefluhtunnel in Oberarth to Goldau . Before the Gotthard Railway opened , most Rigi tourists traveled by ship on Lake Zug or by road.
