Mühlefluhtunnel

The Mühlefluhtunnel is a disused railway tunnel in Oberarth (municipality of Arth SZ ) that was used by the Arth-Rigi-Bahn (ARB) from 1875 to 1959 . In 1959 the ARB section Arth - Arth-Goldau station was shut down and replaced by bus service (now Zugerland Verkehrsbetriebe ).

There is a 6 percent incline in the tunnel, and with a height of six to ten meters, it is one of the highest in Europe. The Oberarther Tunnelweg and the Tunnelfäscht are named after him.

The unusual height arose in 1882 when the company switched from gear to adhesion . The gradient was reduced from 8% to 6% and the level was lowered by 1.5 m. After the closure, the Arth – Goldau route was replaced by a pedestrian path called Tramweg , which also leads through the Mühlefluhtunnel. Today the tunnel is used by pedestrians and cyclists.
