The Lauerzersee is located in the canton of Schwyz between Lake Lucerne and Lake Zug . With its maximum water depth of 14 m, it is one of the shallowest lakes in Switzerland .
geography
The Lauerzersee is embedded between Steinerberg , Rigi and the Little and Big Mythen .
The two small islands of the lake are located near the south bank: Schwanau (5'728 m²) and Roggenburg (750 m²; uninhabited).
In summer you can swim in the lake. The only swimming pool on the lake is the seaside resort in Seewen. Another seaside resort is being planned in Lauerz with the Seemattpark project.
If the lake freezes over, digester gas bubbles often form under the ice , and have been flared through holes in the ice by local youth for decades.
history
The name of the lake comes from the village of the same name, Lauerz .
A tidal wave triggered by the Goldau landslide in 1806 destroyed the entire western village center. 457 people were killed.
