Bellinzona railway bypass
The Bellinzona railway bypass (also known as Galleria Gnosca-Sementina in Ticino ) is a railway tunnel project in the canton of Ticino in Switzerland , which is part of the second part of the major NEAT railway project and between Gnosca and Sementina the eastern foothills of the Cima dell ' Uomo under Bellinzona .
The project envisages a six-kilometer tunnel which is part of a new high-speed line between the south portal of the Gotthard base tunnel and the north portal of the Ceneri base tunnel . At the south portal of the Bellinzona railway bypass near Sementina, the new railway line will cross the Magadino plain and lead directly into the Ceneri base tunnel, the so-called Magadino crossing or attraversamento Piano di Magadino . Where the new line intersects with the old one, the Camorino junction with a possible future Ticino Sud station is created .
In the north, the tunnel will be supplemented by the Galleria della Riviera tunnel, which has also yet to be built, and the approximately seven-kilometer-long, open Biasca bypass. Realization is not planned before 2030 .
