Dmitri Pavlovich Kogan

Dmitri Pawlowitsch Kogan ( Russian Дмитрий Павлович Коган ; born October 27, 1978 in Moscow ; † August 29, 2017 there) was a Russian violinist and Honored Artist of the Russian Federation .

Life

Origin and career

Kogan was born into a musical family. His grandfather Leonid Kogan was a violinist, his grandmother Jelisaweta Gilels a violinist and teacher, his father Pawel Kogan is a conductor and his mother Lyubow Kasinskaja is a pianist, a graduate of the Gnessin Institute in Moscow .

Dmitri started playing the violin at the age of six. When he was ten years old, he played with a symphonic orchestra for the first time. At the age of 15 he took part in a concert at the Moscow Conservatory. From 1996 to 1999 he was a student at the Moscow P. I. Tchaikovsky Conservatory and at the same time a student at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki , Finland .

Activity as a violinist

In 1997, Kogan played for the first time in the UK and the US . After that he performed in Europe , Asia , America , Australia , the Middle East , the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and the Baltic States . He also took part in festivals in Austria , France , Switzerland and Scotland .

The cycle of 24 Capricci for violin solo by Paganini that used almost no one could play, played a special role in the repertoire of the violinist. Only a few violinists in the world can play this entire cycle. Kogan also played almost all of the major concerts for violin with orchestra.

On April 19, 2009, Kogan was the first violinist to give a concert at the North Pole .

On January 15, 2011, he was awarded the title of Honored Artist of the Russian Federation.

In April 2011, Kogan founded the fund for the support of the Kogan cultural project together with the patron Valeri Saveliev . As part of the fund's first project, a concert took place in the House of Trade Unions in Moscow on May 26, 2011. The “Robrecht” violin, made by Bartolomeo Guarneri in 1728 , was acquired by the fund and given to Dmitri Kogan.

In January 2013 the project “The five violins in one concert” by Dmitri Kogan was presented at the World Economic Forum in Davos in the presence of the Prime Minister of Russia, Dmitri Medvedev .

At the end of 2014, Kogan presented a project on the cycle The Four Seasons by Vivaldi and A. Piazzolla with modern multimedia video projections.

Social activity and charity

Dmitri Kogan dedicated himself to charity and support of various activities for children and young people. In December 2002 he organized the first International Festival Leonid Kogan . Dmitri Kogan was the author of the Festival of High Music , which took place in Vladivostok and in 2005 in Sakhalin.

From 2004 to 2005 Dmitri Kogan was General Director and Artistic Director of the State Philharmonic in Primorye.

Since September 2005, Dmitri Kogan has been the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Sakhalin State Philharmonic. In December 2007 he founded and directed the Kogan Festival in Yekaterinburg . In August 2010 he was selected as an honorary professor at the Athens Conservatory . From 2011 to 2013 he was director of the State Philharmonic in Samara . In October 2010 Dmitri Kogan became chairman of the board of trustees of the Ural Music College.

From 2011 to 2014 Dmitri Kogan was cultural advisor to the mayor of Chelyabinsk Oblast .

In April 2012, together with the Metropolitan of Volokolamsk Ilarion , Kogan headed the Board of Trustees of the State Conservatory MP Musorgsky in the Urals .

Dmitri Kogan has been President Vladimir Putin's confidante since March 2012 . In April 2013 he directed the International Festival of the Musical Kremlin, founded by Nikolai Arnoldowitsch Petrov . Since June 2013 he has been cultural advisor to the Mayor of Vladimir Oblast .

In April 2013, Dmitri Kogan held a charity concert at the House of Trade Unions in Moscow. The recording, entitled The Time of High Music, was given free of charge to music schools, art schools and music academies in all 83 subjects of Russia.

In February 2014 Dmitri Kogan was appointed artistic director of the Moscow Orchestra Moscowische Camerata .

In September 2014, under the direction of Kogan, the First Arctic Festival of Classical Music was staged in the Nenets Autonomous Okrug . At this time he was also appointed cultural advisor to the mayor of the Nenets Autonomous Okrug.

Sickness and death

Dmitri Kogan died of complications from cancer at the age of 38.

Projects and festivals

Instruments for children

As part of the all-Russian charity concert Die Zeit der Hochmusik , the violinist played together with symphonic orchestras from different regions of Russia and students of music schools.

The International Festival The Days of High Music

The festival was founded in 2004 by Kogan in Vladivostok .

Spiritual Music Festival

The Volga Spiritual Music Festival was founded in Samara in 2012 by Dmitri Kogan and the Metropolitan of Volokolamsk Ilarion. The festival makes the best choral pieces known to the public.

Orchestra Volga Philharmonic

In 2011 the chamber orchestra of the State Philharmonic in Samara was founded by Kogan.

International Music Festival Kogan Festival

The festival was organized by Kogan together with the Yaroslavl Oblast Government and the Fund of V. Tereshkova.
