from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In the terrorist attack in Magnanville in the French Yvelines department on June 13, 2016, two police officers were murdered and the assassin Larossi Abballa was killed.

Sequence of events

Abballa stabbed the deputy chief of the Les Mureaux criminal investigation department in front of his house in Magnanville with a knife on the evening of June 13th, after shouting "Allah is great" in Arabic, according to eyewitnesses . Abballa then took his wife, a secretary in the Mantes-la-Jolie police station , and their three-year-old son hostage and holed up in the house. During the hostage-taking, Abballa confessed to the Islamic State (IS). The raid stormed the house that night, shot Abballa and found the woman dead and the son alive. Abballa had cut the woman's throat and published photos and videos of his deed on Facebook .

Perpetrator

Abballa was 25 years old at the time of the crime. On May 14, 2011, he was arrested on suspicion of belonging to a terrorist cell. In 2013 he was on trial for allegedly helping to smuggle radicalized young French people into jihad in Pakistan . Abballa was therefore sentenced in September 2013 to three years in prison, including six months on probation. The investigative authorities assumed that the instigator of the attack was Rachid Kassim .

Reactions

France's Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve described the attack as a "repulsive act of terrorism". The regional council chairman of the Île-de-France region , Valérie Pécresse , called for the aggravated emergency . "The French must finally be protected from the threat of terrorism," she said.
