Magna Ville is a French commune in the department of Yvelines in the region Ile-de-France . The municipality has 6030 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) and is located in the arrondissement of Mantes-la-Jolie and in the canton of Mantes-la-Jolie . The inhabitants are called Magnanvillois .

geography

Magnanville is about 40 kilometers west-northwest of Paris . Magnanville is surrounded by the neighboring municipalities of Buchelay in the north and west, Mantes-la-Ville in the north and northeast, Auffreville-Brasseuil in the east, Soindres in the south and Fontenay-Mauvoisin in the southwest.

history

The place was first mentioned as Manamevilla in 1091.

On June 14, 2016, the site was the scene of a worldwide terrorist attack in which a police chief inspector was stabbed to death in front of his home. The perpetrator, acting for Islamist motives, then entered the apartment, stabbed the police officer's wife and took the child hostage. The perpetrator was killed when a special task force stormed the apartment, the child was unharmed.
