Irène Joachim

Irène Joachim (born March 13, 1913 in Paris , † April 20, 2001 in Magnanville ) was a French opera singer (soprano).

Life

The granddaughter of the famous violinist Joseph Joachim and daughter of the violinist Suzanne Chaigneau received violin and piano lessons as a child. From 1935 she attended the Paris Conservatory . In 1938, the composer Georges Auric drew attention to her, who predicted a great future for her at the Opéra-Comique . In fact, she was engaged there from 1939 to 1956 and appeared in works by Auric, Alban Berg , Francis Poulenc , Arthur Honegger , Eric Satie , Darius Milhaud , Luigi Dallapiccola and Pierre Boulez .

After 1945 she performed frequently with Jane Bathori . In 1947 she sang in the world premiere of Charles Koechlin's opera Le livre de la jungle (based on Rudyard Kipling ) and gave the French world premiere of Alban Berg's Four Songs . From 1963 to 1983 she taught at the Conservatoire de Paris.

In 1959 she received the Grand Prix du Disque in Paris with the recording of Carl Maria von Weber songs (piano Hélène Boschi ).

In the last years of her life she suffered from Alzheimer's dementia .
