economy
The city was the seat of a cellophane factory that specialized in the production of cellulose films. The facility was built in 1926 along the Seine near the Chantereine farm. Production started in 1929 and stopped with the German invasion on June 6, 1940. In 1944 the factory was badly damaged during the Allied bombing raids, but was rebuilt after the Second World War . It then flourished until 1985 when it was shut down; the second oil price shock and the advent of alternative materials made production increasingly unprofitable. Today there is a modern industrial park on the former site .
Mantes-la-Ville is home to two world-famous manufacturers of wind instruments: Buffet Crampon , which makes clarinets and other woodwind instruments , and Selmer Company , which makes saxophones . The two well-known saxophone manufacturers Beaugnier and Dolnet also built their instruments in Mantes-la-Ville, but both plants were closed in the 1970s.

Town twinning
On October 3, 1970, Mantes-la-Ville entered into a town partnership with Neunkirchen in Saarland . Senateur-Maire Aimé Bergeal and the then Mayor of Neunkirchen Friedrich Regitz signed the partnership agreement. Accordingly, there is a Mantes-la-Ville-Platz in Neunkirchen today ; conversely, there is a Rue de Neunkirchen (German "Neunkircher Straße") in Mantes-la-Ville .
