The Topes de Collantes National Park (Spanish: Parque Nacional Topes de Collantes ) is located around 800 meters above sea level in the Sierra del Escambray of Cuba .

Flora and fauna

The vegetation within the national park is very diverse. The mountainous region is crossed by rainforest , but pine , eucalyptus and deciduous forests are also ecosystems in the Topes de Collantes. Furthermore, rivers, underground cave systems, lakes and waterfalls shape the landscape and provide a habitat for different animal and plant species.

Hiking tourism

The national park near the central south coast of Cuba is a popular hiking area. Two main hiking routes can be distinguished. On the one hand there is a hiking trail that leads over the La Batata cave to the Hacienda Codina with its orchid and bamboo gardens . On the other hand, a hiking route with an average level of difficulty that stretches through the rainforest to the Salto del Caburní .
