from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mr. Luck (English Mr. Bliss ) is a children's book that was written (probably in the 1930s) by JRR Tolkien . It was first published in 1982 by Allen & Unwin. The German first publication took place in 1983. The translation is by Anja Hegemann.

content

Mr. Glück is an eccentric. He wears extremely high hats, owns a house and keeps a giraffe in his garden, on whose advice he gets a car. The reader accompanies Mr. Glück on his first trip, which is also the last with this automobile. On this trip, Mr Glück experiences many adventures and gets to know people like the widow Ritter and Sergeant Buff or the bear brothers Axel, Teddy and Bruno. In addition to a lot of trouble, the trip also costs Mr. Glück a lot of money and almost his good reputation.

background

Tolkien wrote Mr. Bliss, like Roverandom and the Hobbit , for the amusement of his children. He let some of his children's toys flow into the story.

Tolkien illustrated the story richly. These images make up a significant part of the allure of the story. In the German edition, the manuscript pages are compared with the translation of the text by Anja Hegemann. The German reader thus receives a bilingual edition of the book.
