Aubergenville is a French municipality with 11,817 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Yvelines in the region Ile-de-France . It is the capital of the canton of Aubergenville .

The inhabitants are called Aubergenvillois and Aubergenvilloises .

geography

Aubergenville extends south of the Seine , 41 kilometers west of Paris and 13 kilometers east of Mantes-la-Jolie .. The surrounding municipalities are Flins-sur-Seine in the east, Épône and Nezel in the west and Aulnay-sur-Mauldre and Bazemont in the South. In the north lies the municipality of Juziers .

The center of Aubergenville is located on a slope, it consists of the old village , an adjoining zone d'aménagement concerté - ZAC (a state-sponsored development zone ) and a district from the 1970s around the former Acosta Castle with a large amount of public Housing.

history

Montgardé Castle

The city of Aubergenville was founded in the 11th century. At that time it was a castle in the fief of Pierre d'Aubergenville.

There were three castles in the municipality:

  • Today the Montgardé Castle is still standing, it is located on the Nezel hill overlooking the Mauldre River .
  • The Château de la Garenne , located in the Seine Valley, was demolished to make way for the Renault car factory to be built in 1952.
  • The Acosta Castle near the town center was demolished in 1965 for the construction of new residential complexes.

In 1843 the station was built on the Paris – Rouen line.
